Hungary beats Malta 3-0 in World Cup qualifying

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Tamas Hajnal scored an early goal in front of a rare home sellout Wednesday to start up Hungary on its way to a 3-0 victory over Malta in a World Cup qualifying match.
Hajnal curled a free kick into the top right corner behind Malta goalkeeper Justin Haber in the sixth minute. Hungary was awarded the free kick after Peter Halmosi was fouled hard near the penalty area.
Zoltan Gera and Roland Juhasz also scored for the Hungarians, who now have 13 points from six matches and leads Group 1.
Hungary, urged on by 35,000 fans at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium, dominated the first half but failed to increase their lead.
